A Little About Me

I am a Chicago-based newborn photographer, maternity photographer, and family photographer specializing in luxury photography experiences for expecting and new families. I use natural light in my clients’ homes and professional studio lighting in my Glenview studio located at 1005 Harlem Avenue in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago.

From Teacher to Photographer

Although I have been photographing newborns for over a decade, I wasn’t always a photographer. I started my career teaching Kindergarten in La Jolla, California after finishing my Masters in Elementary Education. I then moved to Chicago—it was supposed to be a short layover before returning to my New Jersey roots on the east coast. But I never made it back east, and Chicago has been my home ever since. I have three amazing children and two crazy pups, a Bernedoodle and a Golden Doodle. We have spent many wonderful years living in Chicago’s northern suburbs.

I’ve always had a love for children, which naturally led me to both teaching and photography. I started shooting photography and teaching myself the ins and outs of the camera when my oldest was a baby. As I delved into photography while my kids were babies, a passion for capturing the innocence and beauty of newborns was also born. By the time I had my third baby, this business was born: Kristin Milito Photography.

My Approach to Newborn Photography

I do this because I’m obsessed with capturing moments and being able to provide that to my families. Newborn photography is challenging—it’s a masterpiece of its own—and such a rewarding form of photography that requires patience, skill, and a deep love for the subject. Luckily, that all comes quite natural to me.

As a mother, I know how fleeting these precious moments are, so I love helping new parents preserve the memories of their newborns and create keepsakes that they can treasure for a lifetime. Whether through heirloom albums or beautiful wall art, I help families transform their favorite images into tangible memories that will last forever.

The moments don’t last forever. But the photos, the albums, the pictures on the walls—those do last forever. And thank goodness they do, because beyond our memory that fades over time, that is all we have left.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during a newborn photography session?

During a newborn photography session, I create a calm, comfortable environment where your baby can relax and naturally settle into those beautiful poses. Sessions typically take 2-3 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and capturing a variety of setups. I provide all props, wraps, and outfits, and I guide you through the entire process with patience and care.

When should I book my newborn photography session?

I recommend booking your newborn session during your second trimester, ideally around 20-28 weeks of pregnancy. This ensures you secure a spot on my calendar, as I limit the number of sessions I take each month to provide personalized attention to every family. If you’ve already had your baby, reach out as soon as possible—I always try to accommodate last-minute requests when availability allows.

Do you provide props and outfits for newborn sessions?

Yes! I have an extensive collection of props, wraps, headbands, hats, and outfits specifically curated for newborn photography. Everything is professionally cleaned and sanitized between sessions. You don’t need to bring anything except your baby and any personal items that are meaningful to you, such as a special blanket or family heirloom.

How long does a typical newborn session take?

Newborn sessions typically take 2-3 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing your baby between poses. I never rush a session—my priority is keeping your baby comfortable and safe while capturing beautiful images. Maternity sessions are shorter, usually 60-90 minutes, and family sessions typically last about an hour.

When will I receive my photos?

Your professionally edited images are typically ready for viewing within 2-3 weeks after your session. You’ll receive access to a private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your images. From there, you can select your favorite images for heirloom albums, wall art, or digital collections.

Do you offer maternity and family photography?

Absolutely! In addition to newborn photography, I specialize in maternity photography, family portraits, and cake smash sessions. Many families choose to document their entire journey with me, from maternity through baby’s first birthday. I also offer bundled packages that combine multiple session types at a discounted rate.

Where is your studio located?

My boutique photography studio is located at 1005 Harlem Avenue in Glenview, Illinois, in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago. The studio is a warm, welcoming space designed specifically for newborn and family photography. I also offer in-home sessions throughout the Chicago metropolitan area for families who prefer the comfort and convenience of their own home.
